Hi Jodina;
something caught my eye on this video. I noticed that at 1:01 the pattern was similar to around 1:43. You were sounding at the same frequency each time. Have you noted the repeated patterns?

Thank you for sending and sharing your cymatics voicebox with me! I have become so fascinated with the power of sound! So much so that I have become a teacher for sound healing workshops.
As I watched your video it made me think of how the clouds drift in the sky! The thought that came to me is this: perhaps not only does the wind effect the shape of the clouds from its movement but by the sound of the wind as it moves. Thereby creating the variety of beautiful shapes we love to look at.

I’m a neophyte in this new area of visible sound patterns.
You do very well work, Jodina, by experimenting yourself based on your own DIY-models.
It’s also super-nice of you to share all your DIY-Cymatic instruments/devices with other people.
I like to build and use my own DIY cymatic instrument as a tool for sounddesign with – especially Frequency Modulation-based – synthesizers, more precisely by visualizing cymatic water images.
Concerning this “cymatic water patterns” I’m a big fan of the CymaScope Pro of John.
In the first time i prefer to start with an experimental and very basic labo-set up of my own Cymatic Sounds Pattern Visualiser to get more feeling with this very exciting field and for obtaining more indepth sights about all kinds of patterns and to understand better all the benefits of that ’state of the art’-instrument of John.
The CymaScope Pro is build for research-goals. For this purposes that ’scientific cymatic water images generated’-instrument needs to be very precisely with all kinds of subtools to guarantee constant-static conditions of (and around) the water-surface and it goes much farther than this. I do not understand all the functions of the CymaScope Pro. For instance : the intrinsic function of the ‘high/medium/low frequencies modules’ of the CymaScope Pro are – until now – an enigm for me.
In a very basic cymatic-DIY setting-up we use a sound source, an amplifier, a loudspeaker and a plastic plate filled with water for obatining very directly patterns on the surface of the water (it’s more than that but, okay).
But i guess i start to understand the basics of that CymaScope Pro modules.
For experimenting myself with such water surface images a more ‘rudimental cymatic set’ – will be quite satisfying for the first year(s).
Little by little i like to build-in more subtools (tools that will guarantee anti-micro-vibrations, anti-aircirculation, static temperature and so on) to understand what will change in the patterns itself by obtaining always the same environmental conditions of the watersurface.
For very subtile changes of modulated frequencies – what is my prefered sound synthesis method – i think it will be necesary to use the CymaScope Pro. This instrument will become better and better in time and – hopely – more accessible for a greater public.
So, I will reading very carefully all your texts and DIY-instructions and viewing all your generated cymatic images and all kinds of cymatic images that i can find in books and/or on internet.

Just to inform you about myself :
I make trance-ambient ‘micro’ – or ‘minimal’ – music(al tunes) with
1. software-synthesizers (such as Propellerhead s’ Reason);
2. a Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer of the ‘80-ties
and soon (august 2014) with
3. a Korg Kronos Music WorkStation.
My main focus thereby is ’sounddesign’ to create my own slowly evolutive soundscaping ‘pads’.
In the maintime I like very much all kinds of “visualised music” for scoping melodic lines and harmonies builded up in time, space and by using colors/lights…
In fact I discovered that i build-up very easily my musical lines in a more visualised manner by drawing my notes into figurative patterns on my Propellerhead s’ Reason Matrix Pattern Step Sequencer. It’s another approach of music making.
So, I’m somewhere a “visualised music pattern”-based music-blocks-builder (a kind of ‘composer’ that co-positionate, conjunctate and configurate notes in a 2D framework).
And a lot of sound-make-up ‘parameters’ of XXI-century analogue-, digital- and software-synthesizer are today graphically visualised on their little screen or build-in tablet and i like to use thereby – as an extra visualisation tool – the cymatic imagery to
1. express and also
2. to build-up soundparticles.
I hope there will be some logics in that (micro)-pattern-forming once i changes parameters of the synthesizer. All kinds of generated patterns (or upstarting particles of it) – by changing this parameters – will be the main focus of my artistic research.
My preferred sound-synthesis method/technique is FM-synthesis (Frequency modulation synthesis). I will send you several links about this in the near future (middle may) so you can understand the principles behind this magnificent method/technique.
I hope that all subtile changes during that FM-synthesis process can be visualised by water-cymatics (or other ‘media’ : sand, oil, …). Be sure that I will need your help for this.
And be sure i will become member very soon of the School of Cymatics, once i’ve finished my little garage-workshop-garden near my small music studio where i live also )
I like to make my cymatic devices into that garage-workshop….
So, please have patience for the next upcoming two months. In that time i will be only sporadic ‘online’. I hope that i can start my cymatic journey in the middle of may. I decided to place this comment of today to ’say hello’.

Hi Gretchen, if you check you will see that the email subscription gives you free instructions for a Cymatic Sounder – not the violin. Sorry if there was any confusion, but you should have the Sounder instructions by now to use as you wish – the violin instructions are a course that do cost $27, you are correct on that.
