Jodina:
I am playing a new instrument out of Germany called
the Soundstone. http://www.alantower.net/soundstone.html
Possibly because it produces acoustic sine waves vs. harmonically complex waves it 'feels' like there is something more specifically cymatic going on. Last night while playing I had geometric patterns going on in my minds eye, many different configurations that reminded me of cymatic images. I will pursue this line of inquiry further, but wanted to share it with you. I will be doing some recordings in a cathedral this month and can send them over later.

Create cymatic patterns with your finger and have the app play what it might sound like. Be able to pick certain musical instruments to do the job. Cymatics in reverse.

Hi Jodina!
I don't yet have an iPhone (have Android), but am very excited about this. As to 'rewards', though i agree with Charles' post that "the App would be the best reward", perhaps your "how to build your own cymatics plate" package or parts of that package; that way folks may have a physical relationship/experience with what the digital experience. Thank you so much for your work/efforts!

Jodina,

I'm sorry for the late reply. I've been moving. There is a book called "The Correlation of Sound and Color" by Paul Foster Case (1931, in the public domain) that provides a lot of great information on the subject.

As I understand it (maybe someone with more background in mathematics can provide more information), the frequency of a sound wave can be converted into Amgstroms and moved further up the spectrum of vibration. Since everything is vibration (sound, color, electricity, infrared, X-ray, etc), it can all be expressed on the same scale.

I hope that doesn't sound too abstruse. I might be able to elaborate after I've had some sleep.

I hope you had a great holiday season! Good luck on the app!

I agree with the comments above. Those sound like great ideas. I also agree with your suggestions for gifts. I realize I'm not adding anything to the discussion, but I wanted to support the ideas that have been suggested so far.

Good luck!

It sounds as a very exciting idea to have such an app. But i wonder how it works; can you share technical details? For me the most interesting use will be to do experiments on very subtile topics, like for example the relation between words and the tone with which they are spoken. In order to do this the app should be way more sensible than any existing machine. And it should not work on the basis of simulations.
Be sure i don't mean this as critiscism; i could never ever make such an app myself, but it would be extremely interesting if your app can help to uncover some mysteries! I hope you succeed!
