Björk Cymatics Collaboration

by Jodina Meehan on January 16, 2013

Artist Meara O’Reilly has created a new set of original cymatics images for Björk’s Biophilia release, using bass lines and other sounds from individual songs on the album.

The cymatics patterns have since been accompanying Björk on her world tour.

“For this project, cymatic patterns were choreographed and synced to the basslines of songs from the album. The footage was designed to be projected on the floor so as to give the appearance that Björk stands on a large cymatic device. In some cases the projections occurred on backdrop screens” says the artist, who is based in San Francisco.

The work was debuted at the Manchester International Festival on June 30th, 2011 and the project was a collaboration with Snibbe Interactive.
