I have tried crushed crystal quartz as well as crushed glass, they worked although the type I had did not give me the detail that salt did. The type I had came from a lens grinder (they make lenses for cameras, etc). so that is a place you can get things like that to try (if they are friendly and open to talking with you about your project). I think it was a little coarse for my purposes, but what I had was some that they had on hand at the time.
I would try going to a lens crafter and find out what they do with their powder from grinding lenses, and see if they will give you some to experiment with. If you tell them about your cymatics work they may be interested as they are scientist who work with glass.
Thanks for writing!

Hi ,
I am part of a heavy metal band located in Boston and we would like to have your cymatic plates as part of our live concert performance.
I would love to order one!
Please let us know.
Regards,
Kris

Sounds Awesome! Lets talk about it. Put your name down in the comments on this post
and I’ll see what I can do. When do you need one by?
