Brain Wave Cymatics: Video

by Jodina Meehan on August 22, 2013

Eunoia from Lisa Park on Vimeo.

Lisa Park uses her brain waves to create cymatics images directly, in an amazing display of the connection between human, vibration, and cymatics.

Enjoy this 3 minute cymatics video, and if you would like to leave a comment for Lisa please do so below.

Here is what she says about her project:

“‘Eunoia’ is a performance that uses my brainwaves -collected via EEG sensor- to manipulate the motions of water. It derives from the Greek word “ey” (well) + “nous” (mind) meaning ‘beautiful thinking.’ EEG is a brainwave detecting sensor. It measures frequencies of my brain activity (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Theta) relating to my state of consciousness while wearing it. The data collected from EEG is translated in realtime to modulate vibrations of sound with using software programs. EEG sends the information of my brain activity to Processing, which is linked with Max/MSP to receive data and generate sound from Reaktor.”

Hi, I enjoyed watching your video. Do you think there is a difference between your brainwave patterns and actually trying to think of the sounds themselves?

this is quite remarkable…..i am reading more and more about this very idea through my search for teaching yoga therapy …..the idea of how our mind generates vibrations that effect one another and how we can use them to help heal and improve a person’s quality of life….this is a beautiful way to show that visually….am also and artist ..a painter and mixed media artist so this speaks well to my artist side….

Fantastic! Beautiful! I have a project to project sound in 3 dimencions. Sound ia not a wave nor is it a two dimencional event. Sound is a multidimensional event like bubbles expanding inside other bubbles. And use my own music. I´d love to make contact with you. Best energies!

Muy interesante, pero tengo una pregunta. Si son las ondas cerebrales quienes hacen las imagenes, ¿porque o para qué, la música que se escucha con el video? Excelente trabajo el que están realizando. Felicitaciones.
