A guest post by John Stuart Reid
John Stuart Reid, of CymaScope.com, presents a perspective on Hans Jenny’s writings on cymatics and discusses how cymatics has come into play as a serious science. He introduces“The Mereon Matrix; Unity, Perspective and Paradox”, a 500-page book on natural and social science that will be published in May 2013 by Elsevier, which introduces the CymaScope to the international scientific community.
Ever since Hans Jenny published his two volumes titled “Cymatics Volume 1 and Cymatics Volume 2” in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, cymatics has remained in the doldrums in the world of science. In fact, ask any scientist if they’ve even heard the word and most will look at you with a puzzled expression.
You might think this is a little odd, given that Jenny’s books are such a rich source of cymatic imagery and highly detailed descriptions. But the plain fact is that although Jenny was in many ways a pathfinder, he approached his exploration of cymatics primarily as an observer; this left scientific explanations of the underlying mechanisms of visible sound to those who would come after him.
Furthermore, Jenny’s commentaries only contain small clues regarding his methodologies, so you can’t expect to learn how to replicate his experiments by reading “Cymatics-A Study of Wave Phenomena.” However, Jenny’s ability to observe and record cymatic phenomena in a precise manner allowed him to sense a correlation between periodic systems, genetics and astrophysics.
After a hiatus of more than 40 years his insights are beginning to a bear fruit. This is demonstrated in research presented in The Mereon Matrix [Elsevier 2013] that is discussed below. Jenny’s work is inspirational in many ways; indeed, it was Jenny’s writings that catalyzed curiosity and inspired me to begin investigations into the world of visible sound in the 1990’s.
His two volumes are long out of print but have been republished by MACROmedia in a single volume titled “CYMATICS“. At $60.00 it is a good investment for those who are seriously interested in cymatics.
Cymatics and The Mereon Matrix:
The Next Stage of Science and a New age of Understanding
In recent years, our research at CymaScope.com has focused mainly on developing the CymaScope as a scientific instrument, to bring it to the point where it can accurately render and replicate sonic frequencies. Working to identify a range of applications for this new technology, we have achieved success in a number of areas.
For example, in Oceanography we have made significant discoveries in dolphin language; and in Asteroseismology the CymaScope has made the sonic signatures of stars visible for the first time.
However, we have remained aware that the governing dynamics of cymatic phenomena must be mathematically described for it to be fully embraced by mainstream science.
In 2012 we began working with the team of mathematicians and scientists who, after discovering what may be the energetic pattern that resides at the heart of Creation, have spent almost two decades investigating and researching its application.
The anecdotal perspective of this discovery was first presented in the book “The Pattern’ in 1997; the Pattern is now known as ‘Mereon’. In our first dialogue with the Mereon team we were asked if the CymaScope could render visible some of the key frequencies related to this pattern. No one could have predicted just how successful the results of this collaboration would turn out.
In a London hotel room in August 2012, we dialed in one of the Mereon frequencies to the CymaScope, all watching expectantly. One team member had predicted mathematically what we hoped to see. The excitement in the room was understandably high as it was acknowledged that if the CymaScope provided sufficient accuracy it would be a new day for Mereon and the science of cymatics. What appeared on the instrument’s output screen was what was predicted and exceeded everyone’s anticipations.
In the months that followed CymaScope.com and Mereon team began intensive explorations in our UK laboratory. The first milestone was imaging the Mereon Trefoil, a cymatically tied knot. After years of work, testing their theory mathematically and using advanced computer modeling techniques, for the first time we were able to see the geometry and topology (knots) of the Mereon Matrix manifest in pure water.
The results of decades of work on the Mereon Matrix and its confirmation by CymaScopic experiments are to be published this Spring by renowned scientific/academic publisher, Elsevier in a groundbreaking book entitled: The Mereon Matrix; Unity, Perspective and Paradox.
All those interested in cymatics will benefit greatly from reading this book and it can be preordered now at a reduced cost. Even with the price reduction it is an investment but worth the price as this will be the first book that presents cymatics from a truly scientific perspective. It is essential reading for all cymatists and one you are sure to refer to many times.
By reading The Mereon Matrix you will learn:
1. The thought process that led from early sand-based cymatics experiments and the building of a rudimentary CymaScope through to today’s advanced water-based CymaScope, developed from an experimental apparatus in which the human ear was used as a model.
2. How the CymaScope’s water membrane ‘encodes’ a given sound into a cymatic pattern and the parameters that affect the encoding.
3. Insights into the future of cymatics.
4. The CymaScope’s role in imaging the Mereon Matrix, which scientists are suggesting is our link with the creative process at the heart of the Universe.
This book is a tour de force and contains much more about cymatics, what some consider “sacred geometry”, and how the Mereon Matrix is being applied to a large number of systems, physical, mathematical, educational, psychological and philosophical. Fully 1/3 of the book applies the Matrix to astrobiology and genetics, the origin of the universe and you; the implications are exciting and staggering.

Amazing research.. would love to read it.. is there going to be an electronic version too? Hardcover is a bit hard on the wallet for me

It’s great that there is a book which has scientific chops. However, I’m VERY interested in reading the precursor, “for poets” version of the theory, in “The Pattern”. I’d like to start with that before tackling the denser, scientific presentation. Does anyone know how to get a copy of “The Pattern”? Who was the author? Searching that name in Amazon pulls up about 300 matches, none of which seem to be it.
Thanks much,
Molly

Hi Molly,
I also looked for the book you speak of, with the tern cymatics related, but could not find anything. Can you tell me more about the book? Who wrote it and what exactly is it about?
In the meantime, if you are looking to read about poetry and cymatics, I would start with Alexander Lauterwasser’s Water Sound Images (I have a link to it in the box in the upper right hand corner on this site, or you can search for it on amazon).
Thank you for writing!

Very good site you have here but I was curious if you knew of any message boards that cover the same topics discussed in this article?
I’d really love to be a part of online community where I can get advice from other knowledgeable people that
share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me
